Frequently Asked Questions General Questions Questions About Coaching Sessions Questions about Fees and Payment If you have any other questions, feel free to e-mail me: js@acrnyc.com A: A personal coach is a person who helps you realize what your goals are, and then helps you to attain those goals. A coach is objective, non-judgmental, and is there to help you achieve what you want to achieve. A coach will challenge you to do better, work collaboratively with you, and hold you accountable for making the changes that will accomplish your goals. Q: Is coaching like therapy? If not, what's the difference? A: Coaching is not therapy. In therapy, a patient is usually trying to understand something from their past which is upsetting their present life. Or, they are trying to fix something that is currently "wrong" with themselves. It is more introspective, seeking comprehension of underlying issues, and using that knowledge to work towards a resolution. With coaching, a client knows there is something he/she wants to change about their life, but is unsure of how to do it. The coach helps them see what they want to change, and how to successfully make those changes. Very little importance is placed on the past. Coaching accentuates the positive. Therapy looks to the past, while coaching looks to the future. A: Clients can come from all walks of life, all educational backgrounds and income levels, and all ages. A client may be a student, unsure of what she wants to major in. Or it could be a Vice President of a company, who doesn't know how to handle her boss. Maybe it's a husband, who wants to improve the communication between himself and his wife. Each client is unique, but is looking for the same thing: guidance and help in achieving life-bettering goals. Q: How do I know if coaching is for me? A: I offer a free, 30-minute trial coaching session, so you can see if coaching is right for you. Think about the following questions:
If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you would greatly benefit from having a life coach. These questions were just a few examples of things a life coach can help you overcome. Q: How do coaching sessions work? A: Typical coaching consists of 4 phone sessions per month, at 35 minutes per session. All phone charges are included in your coaching fee, regardless of where you live. Also included is "e-mail coaching," as well as short phone calls between sessions, as needed. There will be occasional homework or exercises, but you decide how much or how little to take on. Q: How long will I need a coach for? A: This is different for every individual, and will be largely dependent on what you would like to achieve. A typical coaching partnership lasts anywhere from 3-6 months, but can be longer or shorter, depending on the individual's goals. Q: What will I gain from having a coach? A: Imagine a football team without a coach. Each player knows that the goal is to win the game, but each one has their own idea about what their next play should be, and their own reasons for wanting to carry out that play. Maybe one player wants all the glory. Maybe another player doesn't want to get hurt. Yet another might want to take a huge risk, while a fourth wants to play it safe. But without a coach, there is nobody there to help them decide what truly is best for the team. A personal life coach works the same way. A coach is there to give you objective, non-judgmental guidance on how you'd like to achieve your goals, with only your best interest in mind. A: I specialize in relationships, careers, creativity, life skills, and personal development. For more info about my specialties and services, click here. A: The investment for coaching is $200 per month. This includes the four, 35-minute phone sessions, unlimited e-mail coaching, and the short "update/follow-up" phone calls between sessions, as needed. Q: Do I have to pay in advance? A: Yes, each month of coaching sessions must be paid in advance. And for a very good reason. If you pay in advance, you are showing commitment to improving yourself and achieving your goals. Think of it this way: If you signed up for a gym membership, and paid in advance, you'd be more likely to go regularly. If you paid as you went, you'd be more likely to skip going to the gym, since there's nothing to lose. By committing up-front, you've already taken a major step towards achieving your goals! Q: What if I want to end my coaching? A: Sessions are paid for in advance, in monthly blocks. You may terminate the coaching agreement at the end of any billing cycle. Please note that your coaching investment represents a commitment to coaching and to your goals. As such, your monthly payment is non-refundable. Q: What if I have to miss or postpone a session? A: If you need to miss or postpone a session, I require 24 hours notice. At that point, we can pro-rate your next month's fee to account for the lost session, so you do not lose any money. If you miss or postpone a session without notice, you are charged for the session, and there is no fee adjustment for the next month. Q: What forms of payment do you accept? A: I prefer to accept payments via credit card through PayPal. It is a subsidiary of eBay, is completely secure, and I am a verified member. PayPal is instant, private, and secure. I also accept payments by check, but coaching sessions cannot be started until the check clears. If you have any other questions, feel free to contact me: ACR
